Marthe Nyssens is a professor of social economy at UCLouvain (Belgium). She has been prorector of UCLouvain on "Transition and Society" since September 2019 where she launched a "sustainability strategy" for the University around 3 axes: Green campus, Teaching and Research. She founded the first minor in sustainable development at UCLouvain. She has been a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium, "Technology and Society" class, since 2015.
Her work focuses on the conceptual approaches of the social economy and social enterprise and on the links of these organisations with the state, the market and civil society in different fields of activity. Personal services,, integration through economic activity, the commons, etc. Together with Jacques Defourny, she coordinated the International Comparative Social Enterprise Models (ICSEM) Project, which involves some 230 researchers from 55 countries around the world.
