Dr. Christian Wagner, SJ is a Jesuit biotechnology engineer. His courses in the Science, Technology and International Affairs program at Georgetown University highlight for political decision makers key concepts of life science research and energy engineering. He grew up in Europe, and was among the first to join a European studies program in biotechnology in Strasbourg France, that brought together professors and students from France, Switzerland, and Germany. Before joining the Jesuit order in the United States, he worked in research and development for international pharmaceutical companies in Europe and the United States. His research focuses on higher education in China, where he lived and worked for several years.

Dr. Wagner, SJ holds a PhD and MS in microbiology from the University of Basel Switzerland, a MS in biotechnology from the École Supérieure de Biotechnologie à Strasbourg (ESBS) in France, and a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany. As a Jesuit he studied the humanities, and holds several degrees which help integrate his scientific knowledge into a holistic education: a Licentiate in Sacred Theology (STL) and Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Santa Clara University in California, as well as a Master of Arts, Philosophy of Religion (MAPR) from Fordham University in New York.
